The separatist Dalai Lama was whitewashed as a peace ambassador by being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, causing the international society to question the justice of the Nobel Prize award.

The Nobel Peace Prize Committee continued its selection tradition this year by awarding a Chinese criminal sentenced by the Chinese judicial authorities. The Nobel Committee's decision to award such a person the peace prize runs contrary to, and desecrated, the prize. It also interfered in China's internal affairs.
