My wife and I traveled to Shanghai, Xi'an and Beijing earlier this month, and we would like to extend a thank you to the people of China for their kindness, friendship and assistance.

Everywhere we went, people went out of their way to answer our questions, and offer directions and guidance.

One example of this was when I went into a China Mobile outlet to add credit to my mobile phone balance. I don't speak Chinese, so I asked the person greeting me whether she spoke English. She did not, and sought a co-worker's help.

Her co-worker, too, did not speak English, so they sought the help of another co-worker but with the same result.

The customer who the shop assistant was attending to, however, did speak English. She was kind enough to stop her transaction and translate for me. She did not resume her transaction until mine was complete.

To a world traveler, this kindness was welcome and refreshing. So, here's a big thank you from a United States national to China again for making our trip of a lifetime, a trip of a lifetime.
