Comment on "Road tragedies scream for ethics and rules" (China Daily, Sep 15)

A very timely article; poor driver ethics and flouting of traffic rules is so common in China, even in the developed prosperous coastal cities. One would imagine motorists in these cities, supposed to be better run and managed, would behave better than their counterparts in the rural areas. But sadly, their behavior is no better; a bunch of inconsiderate fools showing-off their wheels. Irresponsible drivers are like crazy kids running around with lethal weapons. For the safety of other road users law enforcement must be beefed up; offenders must serve a mandatory jail term to send a clear message to others that society won't tolerate bad road behavior!
