The recent move by the discipline committee of Shuyang county, Jiangsu province, of using moral factors in the evaluation of officials is a very good and creative idea.

This will help check officials' illegal activities such as corruption. Take Zhou Hongwei, former head of the land resources bureau of Nanchang, as an example. He took bribes worth 5.79 million yuan, because he "needed the extra money to have a mistress and lead a lustful life".

An easy way to determine whether an official is corrupt is to see whether he has a mistress.

I hope more county and provincial governments adopt the pioneering and smart strategy developed by Shuyang county to identify corrupt officials.
