Comment on "Exam cheating claim rocks city's Open University" (China Daily, July 12)

The case is similar to Tang Jun's fake degree case, which clearly tells society that in China employers are too focused on the diploma and certificates of their employees, for which most Chinese have no choice but to obtain certificates such as bachelor's diploma or will hardly find any decent offers or promotions.

In addition, for those who are in working condition, in most cases, the diploma program in China is not closely related to their work, so studying further is no more than obtaining a higher degree, without any real chance to learn practical things.

The cheat not only reflects the student's poor quality but also the poor diploma-education system as a whole.

In conclusion, educational experts shouldn't focus on the cheating issue in the short term, a deeper investigation into the adult education system and continuous improvement is necessary.
