Everyone has the right to express his views on the Internet, but that does not give them the right to ride roughshod over other people's feelings. People who insult others online should be punished for their acts, says an article in Zhujiang Evening News. Excerpts:
Many netizens lashed out at a professor of Tsinghua University who had suggested some ways to reform the holiday pattern recently. The professor didn't tolerate this insult and sued the netizens in a local court.
In fact, he is not the only victim of online slander. There are websites that provide netizens BBS services. And in order to become more popular, some of them allow netizens to use abusive language against their targets. A lot of people have suffered such verbal violence during the past few years.
The Internet is free for everyone, but that does not mean they do not respect other people's sanctity. Those who insult others should be held responsible and punished for their deeds in order to better protect the rights and dignity of others.
