An article in Qianjiang Evening News has praised Guangzhou mayor for taking the metro to office, and hoped more officials would follow his example to bridge the gap between officials and ordinary people. Excerpts:

There are many ways in which an official can show his concern for the people, the best of which is to share their daily life. Guangzhou city mayor Wan Qingliang did just that recently by taking the subway to office. It gave him a chance to better understand the people's problems.

Nowhere else could he have got a deeper understanding of civic life. As an important means of public transport, subway trains have become an indispensable part of everyday life for ordinary people, especially because rapid urbanization is making them more and more crowded every day.

Only by experiencing the troubles and tribulations of the people can officials take proper steps to relieve them. The mayor has made a good start, and other officials should make it a mandatory practice.
