Protect people's rights

The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) issued a document recently, that states guaranteeing people's legal rights is a precondition for maintaining social stability, says an article in Yanzhao Metro Daily. Excerpts:

An ACFTU document, issued recently, says ordinary workers' legal rights have to be protected to ensure they live and work with dignity. Our society is passing through a stage of contradictions. Many people have to adopt abnormal methods to protect their rights and interests because official channels cannot do that. As a result, social stability is being disturbed and the pressure of maintaining it is mounting.

In fact, those who put "maintaining social stability" above "safeguarding people's legal rights" are indifferent to citizens' needs and grievances. They even regard people's legitimate demand for protection of rights as factors of instability. Actually, a legal and orderly channel of expression to safeguard people's rights and interests is an important means of avoiding social risks and maintaining social stability.
