The government should not stop at just forcing the closure of Heaven Earth and three other nightclubs in Beijing if it is serious about rooting out prostitution and pornography from society, says an article in Beijing News.

That Heaven Earth Nightclub was a front for prostitution and other sexual services had for long been an open secret. But very few people knew facts such the name and background of the owner or owners, the names of the women running the prostitution racket, and the names of officials who had been shielding the illegal business for years.

Officially, the nightclub has been closed because of fire hazards. The public still doesn't know much about its boss, Tan Hui. The public deserves to know everything: how the entire racket was run, which officials shielded it from the hands of law, how far had its prostitution and pornographic network spread its tentacles, the extent of gambling that took place and the kinds and amounts of drugs exchanged there and all the behind-the-scene crimes.

All these facts have to be dug out, and no guilty individual or institution should be spared. Only if police and other law enforcement officers adopt such an attitude can the government's drive against prostitution and pornography succeed.
