When deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) speak they should echo the voice of the people. So when they address important, especially policymaking gatherings, they should keep the public interest in mind, says an article in Beijing News. Excerpt:
CPPCC member Han Fangming said during the just concluded annual session of the political consultative body that another member, Yan Qi, who moved a motion to ban private Internet cafs, had confessed that the motion had driven up her corporation's value by millions of yuan. Criticizing such action, Han said CPPCC members should not use the session for personal gains.
Though Yan later denied her remarks, NPC deputies and CPPCC members should be reminded that as representatives of the people they should always forward the cause of the public and the country at the annual sessions.
They should know that nobody has the right to use the session to serve their or some group's interests'. The deputies and members should be held responsible for what they say so as not to bring disrepute to the esteemed political bodies.
