The eight pandas rescued from the Giant Panda Base in Wolong Special District during Sichuan earthquake are shunning bamboo in favor of a new kind of steamed bread roll.

The pandas were flown to Beijing Zoo after the earthquake devastated their southwest China home.

Zookeeper Gao Qiang told the Modern Express that his pandas have a smaller appetite for bamboo but bigger in Wowotou, a traditional Beijing snack.

But China's iconic animals still love their bamboo. Each panda eats more than 5kg of bamboo per day and their weights have increased 5-8 kg since arriving in Beijing a few months ago.
