Mexican gold medalist to be rewarded US$230,000

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican Olympic champion Guillermo Perez will receive an award of 2.3 million Mexican pesos (US$230,000), based on the offer that Telemx Institute of Sports did to the  gold winners in Beijing.

Director of this autonomous organism Arturo Elias Ayub announced this economic aid one week before the Mexican Olympic delegation traveled to Beijing.

Elias said, in that time, that the winner of gold will receive every month for the next four years 50,000 pesos (some US$5,000), while the silver winner will receive 20,000 pesos (US$2,000) and the bronze winners 10,000 pesos (US$1,000).

To this aid it is added the one offered by the governor of the state of Michoacan Leonel Cota Godoy who said that his government will give a house or a car to the medal winners from that state, also the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) offered some US$50,000to the winners.

With this economical aid Perez will be able to face the biggest challenge of his live, to get married.

His fiancee Angelica Vaca, who also practices taekwondo, hopes that Perez marry her after six years of engagement.

Vaca told local press that the wedding plans were suspended to give priority to the preparation of the Olympic Games, but the plans will be retaken once Perez comeback.
