Melancholy flavor

A jazz quintet group, including saxophonist Gao Taihang, trumpet Wen Zhiyong, keyboard Xia Jia, drum Xiaodou and bass Wang Chenhuai, sets a melancholy mood tonight.

Beating Beethoven

French-born pianist Cyprien Katsaris hosts a solo concert in Beijing. Born in 1951, the senior musician is highly regarded for his expert performance of Beethoven's Symphony No 9 at a young age.

Exhibitions

Replica of masterpieces

An exhibition of high-quality replicas of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasty ceramic masterpieces is on at the Duanmen Rostrum hall. Called Appeal of National Treasures, it explores the splendid craftsmanship of ancient masters.

Among the exhibits are replicas of a Qing color-glazed porcelain bottle with dragon design carvings and a Ming blue and white porcelain flat pot decorated with an ocean wave.

Stars and galaxy

An exhibition of astronomy, Happy Tour of the Universe is composed of 15 parts, introducing the Earth, the solar system and the galaxy. During the Games, a special exhibition is available called The Starry Sky and the Olympic Games.

A colorful life

Singaporean painter David Chan presents his solo show Hybrid Society - Chapter I: The Infant Cycle in Beijing. Hybrid Society narrates how Chan perceives people. As time passes, even the brightest and most outstanding color will turn gray when mixed with others.

Fabulous Philippines

The Soka Art Center Beijing and Embassy of the Republic of Philippines in Beijing are co-organizing a solo show of Gabriel Barredo. Visions presents the representative works of the baroque style artist. In his works, fiberglass, resin, old items given by friends and other objects are transformed into visions. Born in 1957 and currently working in Manila, Barredo is a prominent Filipino artist who is well known for his sculptures and installations.
