Rebecca Adlington of Britain broke the world record to win the women's 800-meter freestyle gold medal during the Beijing Olympic Games at the National Aquatics Center in Beijing on Saturday.

Adlington clocked in 8:14.10 to beat Italy's Alessia Filippi, who got the silver in 8:20.23, and Denmark's Lotte Friis had the bronze in 8:23.03.
