Robles, Savigne lead Cuba for Beijing Olympics

HAVANA - Hurdler Dayron Robles and Yargelis Savigne lead the Cuban list of athletics for the Beijing Olympic Games, Cuban Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) said Tuesday.

Robles holds the world record of 12.87 seconds in the men's 110 meters hurdles while Savigne is the two-time women's world champion.

Among the Cuban women athletes are Anay Tejeda Quesada and Yenima Arencibia Barrisontes, both in 100m hurdles, Roxana Diaz Sanchez (200m and 4x400), Aymee Martinez Biart (4x400) and Indira Terrero Letucet (400m and 4x400).

Also in 4x400 are Susana Clemens Quesada, Diosmelis Pena Contreras and Daysuramis Bonne Lausaux, while Zulia Calatayud Torres will compete in 800m, Yargelis Savigne Herrera and Yarianna Martinez Iglesias in triple jump and Osleydis Menendez Saens and Yanet Cruz Cruz in javelin.

Gretchen Quintana Cordero will represent Cuba in the heptathlon.

Yarisley Silva Rodriguez will compete on pole vault, Mabel Gay Tamayo in triple jump and Misleidis Gonzalez Tamayo, Maylin Vargas Escalona and Yaniubis Lopez Sago in shot put.

For hammer throw is Yipsi Moreno Gonzalez and in discus throw Yania Ferrales Monteagudo.

The men's athletes also include Jenris Vizcaino Mustelier (100m), Williams Collazo Gutierrez (400m) and Omar Cisneros Bonora, Yasmany Copello Escobar, Yunior Diaz Sayas and Yunier Perez Romero in 4x400, and Andy Gonzalez Nunez in 800m.

In triple jump are Osnier Tosca Rodriguez, Hector Dayron Fuentes and Alexis Copello Sanchez.

In long jump are Ibrahim Camejo Sayas and Wilfredo Martinez Carballoso, and in shot put Carlos Veliz Wiburch, Alexis Paumier Frometa and Reynaldo Proenza Ribot

Jorge Fernandez will compete in discus throw, Anier Boue Perez in javelin and Lazaro Borges Ried in pole vault, while Yordanis Garcia Barrisontes and Leonel Suarez Fajardo will compete in decathlon.
