President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) Liu Qi held a press conferece in Tel Aviv on Tuesday to update the Israeli medias on the preparatory work for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Liu, who headed a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), arrived in Israel on Tuesday afternoon and started the four-day visit to Israel at the invitation of the Israeli government.

He said at the conference that currently, Beijing is actively preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games, and the preparations are progressing smoothly and on schedule in venue construction, sport organization, Games services and other areas.

Underlining the construction of the venues, he said that all the construction works of the 37 venues for the Olympic Games will be finished until the end of the year 2007.

Liu, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, said that the citizens of Beijingare well prepared to host the Olympic Games, and will provide the best conditions for the athletes and people from all around the world.

Liu also met with Israel's International Olympic Committee member Alex Gilady before the press conference.
