The "Olympic effect" will dominate the tenth Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium, according to an official of Beijing.

Wang Xiaoming, deputy secretary-general of the Beijing municipal government, told a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday that a major theme of the symposium will be the update on the preparations of the Beijing Olympic Games, including the preparations for the equestrian events in Hong Kong.

The symposium, to be held in Hong Kong in mid-November, will see Olympic exhibition and promotion activities, display of licensed Olympic products, consulting services on Olympic-related laws and regulations, Olympic marketing, cultural activities, volunteer recruitment, ticketing, equestrian competitions, as well as the handout of Olympic publications.

The cooperation in the area of logistics and the promotion of tourism and tourist project investment will also feature the symposium.

The two sides are expected to sign framework agreements to promote the sale of tourist products in an effort to develop tourism on both markets, Wang Xiaoming said.

Yuan Bin, head of BOCOG Marketing Department told the press that as the result of the joint marketing agreement between BOCOG and the Hong Kong Olympic Committee, BOCOG sponsors can extend their support to the region of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee, and at the same time, the equestrian marketing program, which can be implemented independently, offers opportunities for the participation of Hong Kong enterprises.

Beijing and Hong Kong have seen a rapid development of economic ties in recent years. Trade between them amounted to 4,000 million USD in 2005. Hong Kong is Beijing's largest investment source with 8,370 Hong Kong enterprises setting up their subsidiaries in Beijing and their actual investment in Beijing totaled 7,680 million USD up to the first half of 2006. Hong Kong is also the first choice of Beijing investors who have set up a total of 63 businesses there up to the first half of this year.
