MOU on inspection and quarantine signed

China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), Beijing Municipal Government and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) together signed the memorandum of understanding concerning inspection and quarantine for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games on Thursday.

China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), Beijing Municipal Government and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) together signed the memorandum of understanding concerning inspection and quarantine for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games October 12,2006.[BOCOG]

According to the principle of the memorandum, AQSIQ will take the initiative to set up a coordination team for the inspection and quarantine of the 2008 Games to fully engage in the work for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic games.

AQSIQ, the local government, and BOCOG will convene joint meetings and establish cooperation mechanism to push forward the implementation of the strategic ideal of "New Beijing, Great Olympics."

The administration sees the supervision and quarantine for the Games as one of most special tasks and will simplify the customs procedures, said Li Changjiang, AQSIQ minister, at the signing ceremony.

Li said the administration will provide the utmost favorable policies and convenient measures for the entry or exit of the Olympic personnel and materials. The administration will give priority to the related supervision, facilitate the customs of the Olympic materials, enhance the supervision of food supply for the Games, make joint efforts to deal with the outbreaking of public health incidents and render assistance to the Hong Kong's equestrian events.

"We will faithfully fulfill the words in this area as given during the bid for the 2008 Olympic Games," said BOCOG President Liu Qi.

Liu, also member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, pointed out that the supervision and quarantine work will serve as an important window to reflect the concept of "People's Olympics." The work will be done in line with the practical need of the Olympic operation. The parties will study and formulate quarantine policies, examining methods and supervision measures to provide secure and comprehensive services for the Olympic personnel.

Vice Mayor of Beijing and BOCOG Executive Vice-President Liu Jingmin also delivered a speech at the ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by BOCOG Executive Vice-President Li Binghua.
