The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) launched the solicitation campaign on March 1, 2005, with 409 valid entries arriving at BOCOG's office. On July 31 the same year, the search activity closed. The experts' appraisal produced a shortlist of 13.

People of various circles at home and abroad responded actively to BOCOG's call. BOCOG has received thousands of letters, email messages and telephone calls to offer their views and proposals, though the solicitation campaign concluded one year ago.

Beijing Vice Mayor and BOCOG Executive Vice President Liu Jingmin, BOCOG Executive Vice President Jiang Xiaoyu and chief of the preparatory group of the ceremonies' operational department Zhang Heping awarded certificates and bonus to representatives of the creative teams.

Liu Jingmin urged the creators to race against time to improve their works, while underlining the theme of One World One Dream and the concepts of "Green Olympics," "High-tech Olympics" and "People's Olympics." The connotations of "harmony" and "peace" should be highlighted, and the principal line of integration of Chinese culture and world civilization should be interpreted, he said.
