Updated: 2008-08-23 10:29 China failed to finish the final of the 4x100 men's relay but Wen Yongyi, Zhang Peimeng, Lu Bin and Hu Kai, were thrilled to be part of a historic first: making an Olympic sprint final. China made the final after Britain and Italy were disqualified in the semis for fouls during the baton exchange. Unfortunately, China made the same error yesterday and was disqualified. Said Zhang: "But for the foul, we ran a good race. We lag behind the others like the Jamaicans physically, in things such as the muscle quality. Although we trained scientifically, our physical condition is natural-born and it's hard to make up the gap." Added teammate Hu, 100m winner at the 2005 Universiade: "It's great pity that we were disqualified, we had prepared to be in our best form. We have made history. But I'm sure it will be rewritten soon." (China Daily 08/23/2008 page4) |
