Harper takes the hurdles

Dawn Harper of the United States raced through to victory in the women's 100m hurdles at the Bird's Nest last night.

Harper broke the line in a personal best of 12.54 seconds.

She beat teammate Lolo Jones, who had a clear lead at one stage but was knocked off balance when she hit the next-to-last hurdle.

Sally McLellan of Australia got the silver medal in a photo finish from Priscilla Lopes-Schliep of Canada after both crossed in 12.64.

Jones, the world indoor champion who had the season-leading time going into the final, finished seventh in 12.72.
