 Beach volleyball: Smashing Georgia

Updated: 2008-08-19 08:30 Georgia's Jorge Terceiro and Renato Gomes, the 15th seeds, made a surprise entry into the semifinals of the beach volleyball event yesterday. Native Brazilians who obtained new passports for the Games, Terceiro and Gomes defeated Richard Schuil and Reinder Nummerdor of the Netherlands, the No 5 seeds. They now play the top-seeds, Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser of the US. In the women's section, top seeds Wang Jie and Tian Jia play fellow-Chinese Xue Chen and Zhang Xi, the No 4 seeds, in one semifinal today.
