Beijing will bid a farewell to fixed garbage fees with citizens being charged for the volume and type of garbage instead, the Beijing News reported Thursday.

Beijing municipal administration has finalized a charging plan which will see three different charging modes implemented based on the household, waste collection companies and residential areas.

"The garbage will be treated according to different compositions by burning, biochemical treatment and burying by the proportion of 40: 30: 30," said Chen Ling, a vice director of the Beijing Urban Management Commission.

The waste collecting companies will bid in due time and apply the unified tool and charging platform. Beijing municipal government will give subsidies to its operation and encourage people to do garbage sorting, the report said.
