Xinjiang Medical University new campus to open next Oct

The new campus of Xinjiang Medical University is expected to receive its first batch of students next October, with the recent sealing of the rooms in both basic and clinical medical buildings.

The total building area of the two new medical buildings is approximately 134,838 square meters, with the total cost of 390.5 million yuan ($56.25 million).

The new campus covers an area of 126.67 hectares with a total floor area of 739,000 square meters and a total investment of 4.08 billion yuan, which can accommodate about 24,000 teachers and students.

Gao Fashui, secretary of the university Party committee said that the university followed the national requirements from the new campus site selection to discipline construction. And the operation of the new campus will enhance the local medical and health services and education.

Xinjiang Medical University was an extension to the earlier Xinjiang Medical College which was founded in 1954 and started enrolling in 1956.

In June 1998, Xinjiang Medical College and Xinjiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine merged to establish Xinjiang Medical University.

The official website of the university shows that school campus covers an area of 1.3 million square meters. There are 15 colleges with 23 undergraduate majors and two specialized majors for professional training and 25,638 students in total.
