Urumqi Nanshan Mountain Ski Resort to open in mid-Nov

The ski resort in Nanshan Mountain in Urumqi city, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is expected to be opened in mid-November, with the ski fare basically staying the same as last year, according to Chen Liansheng, president of Baiyun International Ski Resort.

There is snow in some parts of the resort since October 17 to ensure the resort will open as soon as possible.

Chen said that the Baiyun International Ski Resort has added two magic carpets in primary ski slope, and expanded the ski equipment hall to more than 2,600 square meters, which can accommodate 4,000-5,000 people compared to 3,000 people in the old days.

Two new eight-people high-speed cable cars gondola lift—No 3 and No 6 will be available this year, with one-way maximum capacity of 2,000 people per hour. With this, it will take five minutes to reach Aiwen Road, said Huang He, vice manager of the Silk Road International Resort.

No 3 cable car is expected to be put into use in late November. It will start from 150 meters away from the snow hall and end at the Aiwen cabin, 2,300 meters above sea level.

The No 6 cable car which will be open in late December, will start from the east of the ski resort, and attend at the starting point of Happy Valley, 2500 meters above sea level. Its maximum speed is 6 meters per second, and is 2,750 meters in length.

Urumqi will create Xinjiang's first ice and snow happy valley with multi-functional experience areas on sightseeing, ice and snow sports and cuisine this year.

The city will also host the 16th Silk Road Ice Urumqi Snow Festival. Various snow tourism activities such as skiing and food festival will be available for tourists, according to Urumqi tourism bureau.
