Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region started to implement the action plan of "one hundred cities, one thousand industries and ten thousand enterprises" to set a benchmark for advanced development on April 20.
The Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district) became one of the first demonstration zones of the project, along with four other cities and areas in the autonomous region.
This action plan is aimed at improving the standard of the agricultural, manufacturing and service industries, realizing standardization in multiple sectors and forming a new set of standards that meets the demands of social-economic development.
The goal is that by the year 2020 there will be many characteristic cities and towns with distinctive features and great momentum and more than 10 leading enterprises meeting industry standards in the autonomous region. In addition, there should be a group of enterprises with corporate brands and award-winning quality products.
According to Ma Chunlei, member of the standing committee of Toutunhe district, the district has 75 high-tech enterprises, 500 enterprises with independent innovation capability and intellectual property right and more than 60 scientific institutions.
He said that Toutunhe district will make the best use of this opportunity and develop four major industries including advanced manufacturing, commerce and logistics, culture and tourism and the intelligence industry.
The autonomous region also encouraged more participation from other enterprises. It hopes enterprises will apply for the 2018 China Standard Innovation and Contribution Award to spur innovation.
The five demonstration zones are: Toutunhe district, Baijiantan district of Karamay, Changji city of Changji Prefecture, the textile industry park in Aksu and the Tianchi Scenic region at Tianshan Mountain.
