Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone explored innovative ways to foster and attract talents at a forum jointly hosted by Tsinghua University on Sept 26.

The forum aimed to build a platform based on the government’s national Internet Plus initiative and attract high-caliber talents, top experts and industry elites from home and abroad.

The development zone recruited seven experts from various fields at the event to form a “Silk Road development think tank.” The think tank will support the zone in formulating strategic policies, plans and projects.

The zone also signed a cooperation agreement with the Tsinghua University’s Office of Scientific R&D and a three-party agreement with Tsinghua University's science and technology development office, and the Zhongguancun Association for the Promotion of Industry and Technology Alliances.

The zone hopes to improve its mechanism for attracting talents by pumping four times more investment into its research and development sector than average in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. To date, it has set up 60 scientific and technological research institutes for companies and 21 postdoctoral scientific research stations.
