One of the national tourism development key projects, the Silk Road Economic Belt Tourist Center, will begin construction in the Urumqi Toutunhe district, in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. It is expected to come into operation by the end of 2015.

The 24,360-square-meter tourist center is located west of the district’s high speed rail’s north plaza, and has an investment of 1 billion yuan ($162.8 million). The center is aimed at developing into a multi-functional building equipped with a commercial street, tourism logistics service center, and business center. And the project will be promoted in the Fourth China Eurasia Expo.

Song Jiancheng, the manager of Xinjiang Tourism Investment Management Company, said that the center serves as a platform to provide intelligent tourism information, tourism safety, and tourism logistics service for the tourists.

According to Song, in the next 3 to 5 years, it will promote Xinjiang’s tourism, accelerate the adjustment of Xinjiang’s tourism industry structure, and bring in more Central and Western Asian and European visitors.
