Kashgar, Xinjiang hosted the inaugural Silk Road Economic Belt International Forum and Global Business Leaders Western Roundtable on July 27. Over 50 political, business and cultural elites from home and abroad gathered to discuss the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt.

Isma'il Tiliwaldi, former vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, spoke at the opening ceremony.

"This Forum is not only a dialogue between Xinjiang and other countries on the Silk Road Economic Belt, but also a dialogue between China and the world,” he said.

Ma Xiuhong, chairman of the China Foreign Trade Center, said the Silk Road Economic Belt will bring new development opportunities to Kashgar. "Xinjiang will stress modernization to exert influence both at home and abroad.

The region will also construct export commodities and materials processing centers, distribution centers and tourism hubs that will serve Central Asia, South Asia, Southwest Asia, the Middle East and even European countries. Xinjiang will thus become the heart of the Silk Road Economic Belt."

Long Yongtu, chief negotiator for China's entry to the WTO, and Thomas J. Sargent, winner of the Prize in Economic Sciences also spoke at the opening ceremony.

The event consists of one main forum and six sub-forums aiming to combine global high-end business resources to improve the fields of finance, culture, industry and more along the Belt. The Forum attracted elites from all over the world.
