The First International Loulan Tourism Product Design Competition, sponsored by Xinjiang Ruoqiang county, kicked off in Beijing, on Feb 25.

An expert panel of judges will select from outstanding works sent in by design organizations worldwide, and classified into accessories, gifts and other categories according to their functions. They will decide on the best ones whose creators successfully integrated modern fashion with traditional culture.

Any organizations or individuals hoping to attend are required to download forms from Ruoqiang County Loulan Culture Website and complete the applications online. The deadline is July 31, 2014.

The winners will receive up to 100,000 yuan ($16,222) cash prizes and attend the competition’s awards ceremony held during the Seventh Loulan Tourism Culture Festival, in Ruoqiang County this October.

Ruoqiang county’s CPPCC Committee Party Secretary commented that the competition helps to promote the county’s cultural tourism and raise its international profile.

Loulan was a large ancient kingdom built along the ancient Silk Road. The county of Ruoqiang, located in southeast Xinjiang, is considered to contain the origins of ancient Loulan culture. It has a number of historical attractions including the ruins of Loulan Kingdom and Milan Kingdom.
