The opening ceremony for the 2013 One Foundation Warm Bag charity campaign took place in the city of Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Dec 8. Nearly 50 students in the region received their first batch of “warm bags,” Xinjiangnet.com.cn reported.

Inside the warm bags were a variety of daily necessities, including snow boots, hats, gloves, schoolbags and watercolor pens, as well as cards with blessings from volunteers. The volunteer teams will dispense the rest of the bags to children in more than 60 cities and counties in Xinjiang.

During the preparation stage, the campaign utilized hundreds of volunteers for information collection and investigation work. The workers were able to confirm a list of 4,000 poor and needy children to receive warm bags.

One Foundation, originally founded by famous Chinese film actor and Chinese Red Cross ambassador Jet Li, is the first private charitable fundraising organization in China. Its slogan is: “Charity by All, Doing What I Can.”

The organization is committed to providing a professional and transparent platform to raise funds for disaster relief, children's welfare and the training of public welfare professionals.
