The committee of China’s top female Go league competition donated Go goods to an Urumqi school on Sept 2.

A Shanxi publication media group brought the school some Go guidebooks, and Chang Hao, a Go world champion, gave the students checkerboards and chess pieces.

The pupils in turn presented their visitors red scarves and Uygur helmets embroidered with flowers to show their gratitude and respect.

Lin Jianchao, Chinese Weiqi Association’s vice president, said, “Created by Chinese ancestors, the competition is now popular in over a hundred countries of the world. It helps develop pupils’ brains and morality.”

He added that the donation activity has two goals — to put the school among the top-ranked in Urumqi and train more Go talents for China.

The schoolmaster showed his gratitude to the committee and confirmed the donation’s positive influence on development of the school’s Go competition culture.

The Go world champion and other visitors also guided the children through Go art and signed their checkerboards.
