The 71st PharmChina, the largest exhibition in China’s pharmaceutical industry, took place in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, from April 26 to 28. Eight biopharmaceutical companies from Urumqi High-tech Industrial Development Zone stood out at the expo.

With 72 square meters of booth area, the eight Xinjiang enterprises, including Xinjiang Huashidan Corp, Xinjiang Qikang Harbaugh Corp, Yinduolan Pharmaceutical Co, and Gunasiwei Pharmaceutical Technology Co, displayed a variety of well-known local drugs and medical devices for customers and sought networking and business opportunities with companies from other regions.

During the expo, they signed cooperative contracts worth 56.8 million yuan ($9.2 million).

Xinjiang government officials, including Drug and Medical Device Bidding Center Director Xu Jianguo and Food and Drug Administration General Office Director Lu Yifeng, also attended the event.

Due to abundant local medicinal plants, folklore medicine and other bio-resources, the biomedical sector has long been one of the leading industries in Urumqi’s high-tech zone. More than 90 percent of Xinjiang biopharmaceutical firms have settled down here.

The enterprises from Urumqi’s high-tech zone have been to 11 PharmChina expos since 2009, and received great financial support from the local government.

Hu Qizhi, deputy director of the Urumqi high-tech zone management committee, said the expo helps promote Xinjiang-branded biomedical products and raise the region’s international profile.

As Chen Jincheng, manger of Xinjiang Qikang Harbaugh Corp, pointed out, PharmChina provides a platform to share successful marketing experiences and advanced high technologies in the biomedical sector.

The Xinjiang exhibitors were invited to visit Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group, China’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprise, and Taizhou Medical Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, the country’s only national-level medical high-tech zone.

Hu said, “It is necessary for us to study the Taizhou high-tech zone’s full service system, which integrates intellectual property protection, venture capital financing, policy advice, drug approval, and information resource sharing.”

In addition, they also attended forums on State medical and health policy, which offered guidelines for company strategic planning.

To increase communications, the eight Xinjiang companies set up a WeChat social media platform to share all exhibitors’ information and related investment policies.
