The Urumqi State High-tech Zone in Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, held its opening ceremony for some transportation projects in the new area of the zone, on April 30, the Xinjiang website reported.

The construction project covers a road network, three of them from south to north -- extensions of Beijing Rd, Chuangchun Rd, and Wenguang Rd -- and four east-west roads -- Weiyi, Weisan, Weiwu, and Dongjinchang -- with spending expected to reach 11.6 billion yuan.

Tang Jun, head of the high-tech zone’s construction bureau, explained that the network will be built to the highest standards, and that the support infrastructure will be built to international standards in city construction.
