Karamay is currently building a fully-equipped modern campsite to attract camping fanatics from across the country to visit the northwestern city in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

A ground-breaking ceremony was held on May 1 to begin the construction of the campsite located in Karamay Forest Park.

Funded by the Xinjiang 318 Tourism Investment and Management Company, the campsite will cost 130 million yuan ($ 18.8 million) to build.

Xinjiang 318 Tourism Investment and Management Company is a leader in the field, having already established over 20 auto campgrounds across northwestern China. The Karamay site is designed to be a central camp for automotive guests in north Xinjiang.

The campsite is composed of three parts: a car-racing and sports area, a central auto camping area and a leisure area. The 200-mu car-racing and sports area has already been put into operation. The auto camping area, covering an area of 256 mu, will be finished and put into use next May.

As one of ten key camp projects in Xinjiang, the campsite will provide various activities once completed, including car racing, camping, travel services, caravan rentals and an automobile sports experience center.
