As a result, Karamay has built up its three major tourism brands – the World Ghost City, petroleum industrial tourism, and urban recreation. Infrastructure in Karamay including roads, utilities, toilets, tourist information service centers and guidance systems have been improved.
In 2013, Karamay started to turn the World Ghost City scenic spot into a national 5A-rated tourism site. The site, about 100 kilometers aways from Karamay, attracts thousands of tourists to its unique landforms which make a truly unique howling sound as the wind passes through it.
