A limited edition set of decorative playing cards featuring pictures of golden silk jade was revealed in Karamay on Aug 12.

Each card in the deck features a unique picture representing the beauty of golden silk jade. The deck, the only one to have been produced, is aimed at promoting golden silk jade and raising awareness to protect natural resources, according to Wang Congbo, deputy director of the China Association of Collectors.

The deck will be housed in the China Golden Silk Museum, China’s first golden silk jade museum, located in the Karamay Cultural and Creative Industrial Park.

Karamay, located in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, is considered to be the birthplace of golden silk jade, which has considerable ornamental value because of its unique color and texture.

The city was named the “capital of golden silk jade” by the China Ornamental Stone Association in 2014. It has four golden silk jade trading markets and employs in excess of 10,000 people in its golden silk jade industry.
