Karamay was appointed as forum host due to its rich experience, geographic position and city development plan.

For example, the city successfully hosted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Forum on Aug 11-12, 2015, attracting hundreds of Chinese and Pakistan officials and entrepreneurs and bringing about cooperative projects worth 10.35 billion yuan ($1.56 billion).

Karamay is located in the middle section of the Eurasian Continental Bridge. It is an important intersection city along the Belt and Road Initiative, and the China-Pakistan and China-Central and West Asian Economic Corridors.

As an important oil and gas producing base in Western China, Karamay is known as “oil city”. Over the past 60 years, its accumulated crude oil output has reached 340 million tons, while its accumulated natural gas output has exceeded 70 billion cubic meters.
