Some 22 international students from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) are taking part in a training program at Xinjiang Technician Training College, Karamay city’s engineering education base, in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from July 10 to 22.

It is the third time the college has received overseas students. The students are from ten countries including Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, South Sudan, Cameroon, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, said Bai Yuming, director of the international liaison department.

Participants are learning about technological processes and equipment for oil exploitation, gas-mining, oil-gas gathering and drilling at the education base and on-site at the Fengcheng Oil field. They are also studying Karamay’s history and culture.

Bai said the Xinjiang Technician Training College has agreed with domestic and foreign colleges and enterprises such as Amu Darya Gas Exploration And Development Co, Petrochina Corporation in Aktobe, and China University Of Petroleum (Beijing), to provide students and technicians with technical and cultural training.

Bai added that the college’s international training program is faced with certain difficulties regarding students’ visas and the petroleum engineering training requirements of different countries. He said more government support is needed for expanding the program.
