Wang Fang, a Karamay resident, was honored at a ceremony in Karamay on May 31, after donating his cells twice to a leukemia patient, Karamay Daily reported.

Wang recently donated lymphocytes to save a leukemia patient in Beijing after donating his hematopoietic stem cells to the same patient in December 2015.

Wang said his body recovered well after his first donation, and he decided to offer his help again when he learned that the recipient was in danger due to blood rejection. "It's my duty to help people in need, as a volunteer of Red Cross," he said.

Wang, manager of the oilfield division of Karamay Chengyi Science and Technology Service Co, is also a Red Cross volunteer. He joined the Red Cross Society of China to be a hematopoietic stem cell donor in August 2009.

Jiang Zhiqiang, vice secretary of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Red Cross Party, said that Wang is a role model in donating the hematopoietic stem cells and he encouraged more people to be donors to save people in need.

The ceremony was jointly held by the Karamay Red Cross Society and the Karamay Civilization office. Zhu Hexiang, a member of the Karamay Standing Committee, addressed the ceremony. Other participants included Wu Lianwei, director of the civilization office, and Wang Kelin, full-time vice president of the Karamay Red Cross Society.
