The new stadium is divided into two parts: a competition area and a training area. Among other sporting events, the competition area will host basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and gymnastics.

The training area includes training facilities for taekwondo, yoga and fitness training.

One of the unique features of the stadium is its moveable stages for big art performances. Another is its innovative lighting.

The new stadium required a total investment of 280 million yuan ($43.9 million). It is located at No 99, Century Street in Karamay. Its total construction area is 31,795 square meters. It has a length of 126 meters, a width of 108 meters, and a height of 24 meters. There are three floors above ground and one beneath ground. The main venue can accommodate 5,774 people.

The new stadium was opened in April 2013 and was used to host the 2013 National Badminton Competition (Karamay). It was also the venue for the first Xinjiang Youth Badminton Open and various other regional badminton events.
