Karamay district held a folk culture temple fair at the Karamay Cultural and Creative Industrial Park on Feb 21 to celebrate the traditional Lantern Festival.

Visitors guessed lantern riddles, viewed lanterns made of plastic bottles, tasted candies and watched paper-cut shows.

Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar year. It is one of the biggest festivals in China. People will eat tangyuan, or glutinous rice balls on that day because it sounds similar to tuanyuan, which means reunion and harmony in Chinese.

Guessing lantern riddles is another essential part of the festival. Lantern owners write riddles on the lanterns. If visitors figure out answers to the riddles, they will get a gift from lantern owners.

With the development of society, the Lantern Festival activities have become increasingly rich and colorful.
