Karamay's first purple clay museum opened on Aug 6 with a rich variety of clay teaware products on display.

The new museum is located on Linyuan Road and also exhibits traditional ways to produce clay wares. "Not only does the museum help promote Karamay's purple clay, but it also functions as a new tourist attraction," said Liu Gang, director of the Karamay tourism bureau.

The purple clay museum will launch courses to teach visitors production skills.

The purple clay in Karamay is found in the Gobi Desert. Called "golden silk clay" by local people, the Karamay purple clay is famous for its rich microelements, such as iron, zinc and selenium, all of which are known to be beneficial for people's health.
