Karamay makes its mark in national badminton competition

The Karamay leg of the 2015 Tongde Cup National Badminton Amateur Competition was held in the city on June 13.

Some 435 players from Xinjiang participated in the competition, 219 of whom were from the city of Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Jiao Yu'e, chief referee of the event, said she was impressed by the performance of Karamay badminton players as well as the participation level in Karamay.

"Nearly 40 percent of the participants came from Karamay and the players won eight gold medals, which is a remarkable result," Jiao added.

This year, it was the third time that the National Badminton Amateur Competition came to Karamay. Local people's passion in appreciating the badminton sport and their participation in the games make the sport be deeply-rooted in the city.
