A 10-member Azerbaijani delegation paid a visit to Karamay in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to attend the 5th Xinjiang Teenagers' Science Festival and explore the oil city.

During their stay, the delegation visited the Karamay Exhibition Hall where they showed particular interest in an exhibition about the history of oil and oilfields in Karamay.

Both Azerbaijan and Xinjiang's Karamay city are rich in energy resources. Azerbaijan has substantial oil and natural gas fields in the Caspian Sea seabed, while Karamay is located in an area with abundant oil and gas resources, one of China's largest oilfields.

In addition to natural resources, the two sides place particular emphasis on scientific and technological development. Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, said last April that his country would give priority to scientific development to improve its economic structure. Meanwhile, Xinjiang also prioritize building Karamay into a technologically-strong city and popularizing science among the city population.

The 5th Xinjiang Teenagers' Science Festival held on April 28-29 is an annual event for science and technology enthusiasts and teenager inventors. Nearly 1,600 experts and inventors from all around China as well as Pakistan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Australia and the United Kingdom displayed their works, took part in robots and model airplanes competitions and exchanged their innovative ideas.
