The city of Karamay, in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, is planning to launch a frugality campaign in response to the Nationwide Thrift Practice and Virtue Development Conference, which was held on May 27 by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and National Development and Reform Commission to promote public frugality awareness and cut down on extravagancy.

The conference publicized a healthy and positive lifestyle and stressed that the country’s traditional virtues should be maintained. In addition, water and electricity conservation concepts will be publicly advocated.

Guo Zhongjun, head of the Karamay publicity department, called on related departments to decide on a comprehensive saving action with clear goals, direction and responsibility. A variety of promotion tools including media advertising, publicity, partnerships and education initiatives are to be used, and an information gathering and research work will also be conducted at the same time.
