Lavender industry looks to science

A lavender industry summit took place at Huocheng in the Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region in the wake of the fourth Lavender Culture Tourism Festival. The meeting discussed industry prospects, tourism integration and related farming and animal husbandry, together with future development and potential value of the industry.

Pierre Ross, a renowned flavoring master and oil extraction technology expert, reported on industry development and was named an honorary counselor of the Huocheng lavender industry.

Wang Li, winner of the national prize for progress in science and technology and president of the aromatic agriculture group, spoke on processing technology and industrial value promotion.

Zhou Yingjie, a Taiwan fragrance expert, spoke about derivative products and research values while Zhao Lewei, an expert on herb cultivation, talked about variety breeding and standardized planting.

Niu Zhengfu, vice governor of Yili Kazakh autonomous prefecture, said the industry has been leading the county's economy and that the meeting had generated ideas on future scientific development.
