The Nawuluzi Festival is an important festival for the Kazak and Uyghur people. It falls on March 21 in the Gregorian calendar, which is also the day of the vernal equinox in the Chinese lunar calendar. Nawuluzi means ringing out the old year and celebrating the coming year in Farsi. On that day, the Kazak people make “Nawuluzi food” that consists of barley, millet, noodles, meat and milk. The Nawuluzi food is then used to treat relatives and friends who visit to extend New Year’s greetings.
