Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is known far and wide as the home of fruits. Grapes are one of the most representative fruits. Xinjiang grapes are world famous for their high sugar content, fresh flavor, bright color, rich nutrition and high quality.

Red Globe Grape

Huocheng county is one of the major red grape producers in Xinjiang. In 2000, Huocheng’s Mohuer pasture was recognized as the home of red globe grapes in China. The county’s grape planting area has reached 70,000 mu (4666.67 hectares), being the largest red grape planting area in the country. Grape growing is one of the key industries which is increasing the income of local residents.

Situated next to the Tianshan Mountains and Ili River, Huocheng county is endowed with dry weather, over 2,700 hours of annual sunshine and a huge day-night temperature differential. The area is regarded as an ideal place to plant red grapes.

The county has been striving to develop the local grape industry. It set up a specialized “Western dragon ball” grape cooperative in 2008 to make standardized management for grape farmers. The cooperative has an annual grape output of 30,000 tons, accounting for 70 percent of the county's total.

Mohuer pasture held its first grape festival in 2012. It also promoted leisure agricultural tourism, attracting tourists nationwide.

Huocheng is making efforts to spread its red grapes globally.
