Dried apricots, also known as small golden fruit, naturally dry on trees as they ripen.

Dried apricots

Dried apricots are mostly grown in Alimali city, Ili prefecture. The secret to the region's dried apricot harvest is its abundant sunshine combined with the huge day-night temperature differential. The apricots, as a typical specialty for Ili tourism, are very popular among domestic and foreign consumers.

General apricots can be kept for less than a week, but the storage time of dried apricots is as long as one or two years.

Both the fruit and kernels have a unique taste. The dried apricots are rich and sugary while the almonds are both sweet and crispy. The apricots contain many kinds of nutritional ingredients, which can eliminate phlegm and help reduce cancer. They are regarded as a natural green food.

The central government has attached importance to Xinjiang’s dried apricot industry. Several apricot processing enterprises and apricot drying houses have been built to develop new species of apricots, including preserved apricots and almonds.

Ili has been working on the planting, processing, sale and sightseeing of dried apricots to bring more revenue to local farmers.
